Positions are available for experienced, responsible and enthusiastic young leaders who would be interested in devoting their summer to working with children in a positive, outdoor environment. Below are descriptions of the positions we have at camp. Depending on where we are in the hiring process, these positions may or may not be open.
Positions
New Counselor: If you have never worked at Farm Camp before, this is for you! Unit counselors are responsible for the care and supervision of campers in all aspects of the program. Depending on the period of the day, they lead their unit group, lead activity or chore groups, supervise general areas of camp, or execute special parts of the program. They build positive relationships with campers and serve as role models and authority figures.
Returning Counselor: If you have worked at Farm Camp before, this is for you! Returning Counselors have the same job description as new counselors, but also serve as mentors to first time staff. This position provides the opportunity to hone your skills and show off your budding leadership abilities.
Social Media/Office Coordinator: The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for capturing and sharing the daily life, spirit, and special moments of Farm Camp through approved social media channels. They will also assist with various weekly office tasks as well as distribution of mail/packages.
Maintenance Person (Ranch Right-Hand): This person will serve as a liaison between the ranch and camp for all maintenance projects and will have at least one year of experience as a Farm Camp counselor under their belt. This person will check the maintenance list in the office each morning and attend to any tasks that come up throughout the day. Tasks will vary and they will be trained on regular maintenance duties. Some knowledge of basic maintenance preferred but more important is a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. This person will not be in unit with campers but will be a part of the camp community!
Assistant Wrangler: We’re looking for someone to learn the wrangling ropes this summer! This person will assist with all wrangler duties but will not be solely responsible for supervision in the horse program. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to work their way up to becoming the Head Wrangler in future summers.
Head Wrangler: The head wrangler is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of our horse program. This person manages the herd, maintaining the basic health and well-being of each horse. This person is also responsible for the daily maintenance of all horse equipment. They train counselors on how to run pasture rides and chore periods and then oversee chore and activities throughout the day. This person will receive direct training from our horse program director and will continue to hone their horsemanship throughout the summer. The most important qualities for this person are a positive attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to lead with a calm, confident demeanor. Previous horse experience necessary.
Camper/Counselor Support team (CCST): This team of people will do exactly as the title suggests- they will support campers and counselors throughout camps’ daily program. They will fill in as needed for supervision but will also help with various tasks around camp. They help counselors with camper and unit challenges (i.e. homesickness, behavior issues, social dynamics, etc.) as well as counselor-coworker dynamics or personal needs. We are looking for people who are flexible and who will take initiative in finding ways to support the camp program.
Head Counselor: We’re looking for staff who have 2+ years of counselor experience at Farm Camp (preferred) who want to take on a leadership role. This person/people will support the campers, counselors and the CCSTs, serving as role-models and mentors in the camp community. They will train staff, perform counselor evals, and give feedback to staff. The person/people who will thrive in this role are those who are self-starters and looking to improve their leadership skills. Must be 21+ with a valid driver’s license.
Kitchen Staff: Our kitchen staff are the culinary masterminds behind our delicious, from scratch meals. Much of our meat is grown on our site and we have a large garden on location as well. Our kitchen staff collaborate to prep and cook meals in our industrialized kitchen, and work as a unit to wash cookware and keep the kitchen domain clean and sanitary.
Healthcare Staff: The health and safety of our campers and staff is a top priority and we hire two healthcare professionals (MD’s or RN’s) each summer to care for and manage the wellness of our camp and staff community. Duties include updating and organizing camper and staff health records, giving medications and supplements, and providing care through our camp. Our healthcare team participates in our program in the same way everyone else does, sharing meals and jumping into activities!
*All counselors are responsible for being CPR and First Aid certified before they arrive at camp. Skills such as lifeguarding, horseback riding, guitar playing, arts & crafts, performing arts, and agricultural, are particularly desirable and preference is given to applicants that are available to work the entire summer.*
Compensation
The following is an outline of our pay scale for summer staff. The pay scale is our way of making salaries consistent for the entire staff. However, if you have unique qualifications not stated in the outline, please contact our office to discuss your situation.

Additions to base salary (per week) are made for the following situations:

Please note:
- ALL staff MUST be 1st Aid and CPR Certified before arriving at camp.
We hire about 30% of our staff through international placement agencies, bringing in qualified instructors and counselors from all over Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. The atmosphere created by hiring staff from around the world is unique. The practical skills as well as the cultural education the international staff provides is a wonderful addition to the overall camp experience.
